Week 6

I think today is around our six week mark. Here is a bit of what's happening right now:

The baby's length is now about 3 to 5 millimeters -- about the size of a peppercorn! The brain is forming three separate parts: the forebrain (memory and reasoning), the midbrain (translates messages from the brain to organs and limbs) and the hindbrain (regulates breathing and muscle movement). At this point the baby is now three-dimensional and completely enclosed in the amniotic sac. Your baby's heart is now beating (wow!)and blood circulation is evident. The kidneys and liver are growing fast, and the neural tube, which connects the brain with the spinal cord, closes. The placenta is rapidly developing, however, it will not take over hormone production until about week 12.

In addition - the ears and eyes have already begun to form and there are little buds where this precious little one's hands and feet will be. AMAZING! Sometimes I just lay with my hand on my belly just in awe of what is going on in there.

In the meantime I feel like I have run a marathon with how tired I am! I have been sleeping so great at night - except for now the one or two times I need to get up or use the restroom. It is hard to pull myself out of bed in the morning, and the second I am finished getting ready I find myself wanting to go back to sleep again! It makes sense though when I read about all that is happening in side of me at this time. Pretty incredible.

Chris and I are getting so excited to share our news with everyone else. We have decided though to wait until our appointment on the 10th before we say anything else to anybody. We also don't want to tell people too far in advance from telling my parents on July 2nd. We are beginning to think about how we want to tell our families. We have been tossing all kinds of ideas around in our heads. How fun! I have such an excitement in my stomach just thinking about it - or maybe it's just gas (I've had a lot of that too!) :)

This is just so incredible. SO INCREDIBLE. I love being pregnant already and the journey has just begun.
